The Explore tab is where Instagram users go to discover something new – it shows content based on their interests, not on who they follow. That makes it a natural place to reach people who don’t know your brand yet.
How Explore ads work
Ads in this placement appear after a user taps a post in the Explore grid and starts scrolling through similar content. They look like regular posts or reels, so they need to fit in with the content around them.
When this placement makes sense
- Your product or service is visual – food, interiors, events, beauty, travel, fashion.
- You want to reach new audiences with similar interests to your customers.
- You already have content that performs well organically.
How to prepare creatives
- Use vertical formats and grab attention in the first second.
- Show the product or the result, not just your logo.
- Keep text on the image short and readable on a phone.
- Prepare several versions and let the system find the best one.
Placement settings
In Meta Ads Manager you can use Advantage+ placements, which include Explore automatically, or choose placements manually. Manual selection is useful when you want to test Explore separately and compare its cost and results.
Measure beyond likes
Judge the placement by what happens after the click: profile visits, enquiries, bookings and sales. Make sure your Pixel and Conversions API are set up correctly, otherwise you will optimise for the wrong signal.
Combine with organic content
People who discover you through Explore will check your profile. A consistent grid, highlights with your offer and an up-to-date link in the bio turn that visit into a follower or a customer.
